Friday 16th and Saturday 17th September 2022 Over the two days we will learn and develop to paint outdoors, direct from life using oil paints as our medium, how we set up and work in challenging environments. At the beginning of each session, Andrew will give a brief introduction about painting outdoors using oils and will run through the materials and use of the art pods. Participating artists will begin by working on quick oil sketches of our surroundings, en plein-air, exploring ideas about composition and getting a ‘feel’ for our landscape. Artists will be encouraged to move around the location to choose a view that appeals to them where they can develop their ideas further. We will look at compositional issues, colour choices with limited palettes and tonal values, leading us to an idea or view of a landscape that can be brought to life in an oil painting. A typical plein air painting takes Andrew around 2 hours to complete and sketches are around 20 minutes each. You will also receive a complimentary School of Outdoor Art drawing board sketchbook. All refreshments and a homemade vegetarian lunch included.
